Albania Takes Major Steps Toward a Modern Payment Ecosystem – and Capsys Was Honoured to Be There

Last week, Capsys had the great honour of being invited to the annual meeting of the National Payment System Committee of Albania. The event marked a series of significant milestones in Albania’s financial transformation – and it was a privilege to contribute to the discussions during such a historic moment.

Key Highlights from Albania’s Payment Developments in 2025:

  • Introduction of Open Banking, enabling more transparency, innovation, and customer control over financial data.
  • Joining the SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area), which streamlines euro transactions across Europe and boosts financial integration.
  • Announcement of a Domestic Instant Payment System, one of the region’s most ambitious steps toward real-time, digital financial infrastructure.

Capsys' Contribution: Sharing Experience from Hungary and Beyond

Our invitation to the Committee aimed to bring first-hand insights into how Instant Payments have reshaped the financial landscape in Hungary — from both a technical and customer experience perspective.

Key discussion points included:

  • Changing consumer and business payment habits,
  • Infrastructure and operational challenges for banks,
  • The role of instant payments in supporting innovation for merchants, loyalty programs, and user convenience.

We’re grateful to Ledia Bregu, Valentina Semi, and the team at the Bank of Albania for giving us the opportunity to support this transition with real-life examples and lessons learned from successful implementations in Hungary and other countries.

Congratulations to Albania on Joining SEPA!

Joining SEPA is more than just a technical integration — it’s a major step in Albania’s path toward deeper EU financial and economic integration. The benefits are clear: faster and more transparent cross-border euro payments, increased investor confidence, and a more open financial environment.

At Capsys, we believe that regional digital transformation thrives through collaboration. We’re proud to see Hungary’s experience helping shape progress in the region and we are excited to continue working with partners who share the vision of seamless, modern, and customer-friendly payment systems.

Let’s build the future of payments together — faster, smarter, and beyond borders.
